Please be sure to check below for the meeting plan. It will be updated every week.
Dear Parents and Scouts,
I have very recently obtained the list of Merit Badges that are to be offered at Summer Camp (Daniel Boone). The seven scouts who are taking the high adventure trek (white water rafting) will not be taking any Merit Badges since they will be on the rivers all day.
There are five Merit Badge sessions, three in the morning and two in the afternoon. Some of the badges have a fee associated with them. This fee would be in addition to the fees collected to go to camp. Some of the badges take more than one session which means that you may not be able to take five badges depending on which ones you select. Some of the badges also have a minimum age requirement. They will hold us to this, so please review the minimum age versus your scouts age.
The new scouts (just coming into the troop from Webelos) will all be enrolled in the Goin Great first year program. We will try to get the afternoon two sessions for this. Therefore, they will only be able to get three merit badges, taken in the morning sessions. So, please take a look at these. I normally place all new scouts in the swimming merit badge at summer camp. However, this time, we will be in the mountains and the lake will be very cold (about 65 F). We will also have to take the swim test in that cold lake and must pass the test to get into the swimming merit badge at this camp. We will do the swim test at camp and we must pass it to take the one day whitewater rafting activity planned. So if you need extra practice swimming in cold water, it is time to get started practicing. I believe it will be best to have all the first year campers take the first aid merit badge (it is one of the eagle required badges). It would be good to also select a nature related badge and maybe a technology related badge. You will see everything on the attached list.
Merit Badges available are on the forms and documents page.
I need to have all scouts input on badges they want (plus one or two alternates) before the end of March. Yes, in the next two weeks. This is because I will need to enter all requests into the computer immediately at the start of April. Every troop will be entering their wishes at the same time and the badges are limited. It is first come, first served. After that, we will have to pick what is left over.
Give it some thought, and we can discuss at the next troop meeting (after spring break is over).

We have 43 Scouts of all ranks, as well as an equal number of adult leaders and participants. The smaller size of our troop allows for individual attention to each boy's advancement.
We became a Troop in 2003, chartered through Saint Martha Catholic Church in Kingwood, Texas. Our name was Troop 727 in Kingwood. We are the best Troop for Boy Scouts in Kingwood and Boy Scouts in Houston!
We go on monthly campouts, as well as an annual summer camp. There are also many activities and fundraisers occurring throughout the year. We are the troop that puts out the flags in your neighborhood on patriotic holidays! Older Scouts attend high adventure camps each summer. We meet every Tuesday night at 7:30 in the Youth Center at Saint Martha Catholic School.
We welcome you to visit our weekly meetings Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. Please call Mike McDonald at 832-995-9534 to schedule a visit.
